Urla 'June' Beamgard

ATWOOD, Kansas -- Urla "June" Beamgard, 84, died Friday (Sept, 16, 2011), at the Good Samaritan Society in Atwood, Kansas.
She was born June 24, 1927, on a farm near McDonald, Kansas to Earl and Jessie Argabright. The family moved to a farm southwest of Atwood on Beaver Creek in March 1930. She graduated from ACHS in 1944, and taught two years in a rural school on an Emergency Certificate from Kansas University issued because of a shortage of teachers caused by World War II.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church where she served in missions work, church choir and taught Sunday school for more than 50 years. She also was a member of Eastern Star, serving as Grand Matron in 1963.
She returned to college at Fort Hays in 1966 to get her degree, graduating in 1969 and teaching for 11 years. She and Don were instrumental in founding the Beamgard Learning Center and were among the original supporters of the Prairie Development Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.
Survivors include two sons, Dick and wife, Cheryl and Kent and wife, Corrina; a brother, Dal and wife Connie, two grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.
Funeral services were today at the United Methodist Church in Atwood with the Rev. Connie Wooldridge officiating. A Fraternal service was given by the Eastern Star Radiant Chapter No. 229 Atwood. Interment followed at the Awood Fairview Cemetery.
A memorial has been established at Atwood 2nd Century Fund.
