Budget hearing Tuesday for Middle Republican NRD

CURTIS, Nebraska -- A budget hearing will precede the regular meeting of the Middle Republican Natural Resource District, Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Center in Curtis.

The proposed property tax request for 2011-12 is $703.388.74. The proposed 2011 tax rate is 0.030281, or 3.2 cents.

The MRNRD collected no property taxes in 2010-2011 to make up for a property tax collected in 2008 that was later ruled to be unconstitutional.

The MRNRD board previously decided on an $8.50 occupation tax for the 2011-12 MRNRD fiscal year, which should generate approximately $2.55 million to be primarily used for the purchase of the Riverside Irrigation District properties.

At the regular meeting, the board will be asked to approved the proposed budget.

Directors will also discuss the occupation tax challenge, that is still waiting a judge's ruling in the Nebraska Supreme Court.
