CULBERTSON, Nebraska -- Jesslyn May (McNeice) Stubbs, 88, died Friday (July 29, 2011) in Cody, Wyoming.
She was born Dec. 21, 1922, on the family farm south of Culbertson, Nebraska. She grew up in the Culbertson community and graduated from Culbertson High School in 1941. Following her graduation she moved to Denver, Colorado, where she lived with her brother, Winston McNeice and his family.
She worked in Denver, where she met Harold C. Stubbs of Crockett, Texas. On Aug. 8, 1942, Jesslyn married Harold Stubbs in Salina, Kansas, where he was stationed with the U.S. Army Air Corp. She traveled with her husband during his military service, living in several states and two tours in Japan, and four years at Purdue University in Indiana, where he was an instructor.
They returned to the U.S. Air Force Academy where they retired in 1958. They moved to Culbertson in 1963, where they spent the remainder of their lives. Jesslyn's one wish was to go to Ireland, where she did in 2007, and walked the streets where her grandparents, the McNeices, lived before coming to the United States.
Jesslyn was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Double 4 extension club, the Women's Club, Garden Club, the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxilliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, on June 18, 1987; her parents, Joe and Rena McNeice; one grandson, Michael Morgan; three brothers, Dale McNeice, Winston McNeice and Berwin "Jack" McNeice; sisters, Mavis Petersen, Josephine Petersen and Iris Gummere.
She is survived by one daughter, Joetta Morgan of Yerington, Nevada; one son, Cray Stubbs and wife, Cindy of Minden, Nebraska; grandson, William Morgan of Yerington; granddaughter, Stacey Stubbs of Minden; grandson, Matthew Stubbs of Minden; one sister, Eileen Moore of McCook, Nebraska; nieces and nephews; and several close friends.
Funeral services are Wednesday, 10 a.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson with the Rev. Corey Jenkins officiating. Interment is in the Culbertson Cemetery.
Visitation is Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., at Herrmann Funeral Chapel in Culbertson.
