CAMBRIDGE, Nebraska -- Nancy Ellen Mortimore, 85, died Friday (June 24, 2011) at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

She was born June 29, 1925, near Lebanon, Nebraska in Red Willow County, to Cyrus W. and Lillian Ruth (Baker) Thomas. Nancy attended country school graduating from Danbury High School.

Nancy worked in McCook after graduation at the Ideal Laundry. She moved to Seattle, Washington where she worked for Boeing Aircraft.

On May 1, 1958, she married Harlan "Baldy" Mortimore; he preceded her in death on March 10, 2006. The couple farmed southwest of Stockville, Nebraska for 30 years. Nancy moved to Cambridge on Oct. 27, 2004.

Nancy enjoyed dancing, especially polka music. Nancy and friends would attend dances across Southwest Nebraska. She was an avid reader.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Malcolm and an infant brother.

Nancy is survived by nieces, Dani and husband, Holger Thomas of Germany, and Tracy Wilkins of Montgomery, Texas; and two nephews, Eugene and wife, Catherine Thomas of Albright, West Virginia, and Ed and wife, Linda Thomas of McCook, Nebraska.

Funeral services are Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Calvary Baptist Church in Cambridge with Raymond Durner officiating. Burial is Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Arbor Cemetery in Stockville.

Visitation is today, 4-7 p.m., and Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge.

Memorials may be left in her name at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary to the Butler Memorial Library in Cambridge.
