Lloyd E. Emerson

OBERLIN, Kansas -- Lloyd E. Emerson, 90, died Wednesday (June 15, 2011) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.
He was born July 17, 1920, in Decatur County, Kansas, to Charles S. and Gertrude "Inez" (Eagleson) Emerson. He was raised in the Oberlin area and graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1939.
He was in the U.S. Air Force and served during World War II.
He married Virginia Lou Landau and they lived in Leoti, Hoxie and Lakin, Kansas while he worked for the Kansas-Nebraska Natural Gas Company. When he retired, the couple moved to Oberlin.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion Post No. 70, and the National Rifle Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia; siblings, Robert Emerson and Alice Hunzike; and step-brothers, Harold Smith and Ralph and Ervin Emerson.
He is survived by son, Lloyd Patrick and wife, Nancy Emerson of Lawrence, Kansas; daughters, Penny Arnoldy of Oberlin and Nikki and husband, Harve Truskett of Longview, Texas; brother, Raymond and wife, Patricia Emerson of Rawlins, Wyoming; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are Monday, 10 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Oberlin with the Rev. Linda Willey officiating. Burial is in the Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation is Sunday, 1-8 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin, and Monday 8 a.m. until the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Decatur Community Schools Athletic Department or Pheasants Forever.
