ARAPAHOE, Nebraska -- Margaret Ida Amelia Herbert, 80, died Wednesday (June 15, 2011) at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska.
She was born Sept. 15, 1930, to August and Maude (King) Breinig at the family farm south of Arapahoe, Nebraska.
She grew up on the family farm and attended country school through the eighth grade. She then moved into town and lived with her grandparents, Albert and Ida (Oatney) King, attending Arapahoe High School and graduating with the class of 1947. She worked at Morris Drug Store during those years and taught one year at a country school.
She married Harvey Dale Herbert of McCook, Nebraska on April 11, 1948, at First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe. Margaret worked at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital for five years and then returned to work at Morris Drug which later was renamed the Arapahoe Pharmacy. She retired after having worked there for 28 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one great-great granddaughter, Ashlyn Marie.
Suvivors include her husband, Harvey Herbert of Arapahoe; sons, David Herbert of Arapahoe, Don and wife, Margaret Herbert of Cozad, Nebraska, Dan and wife, Debra "D.J." Herbert of Cozad and Dick and wife, Debra "Deb" of Lexington, Nebraska; daughters, Shelia and husband Charles "Von" Pruitt of Arapahoe, Patricia and husband Roy "Mick" Daughenbaugh of Beaver City, Nebraska; sister, Doris and husband, Darrel Rauch of Byers, Colorado; brother, Lyle and wife, Janice Breinig of Arapahoe; sister-in-law, Mavis Herbert of Wray, Colorado; 25 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services are Monday, 10 a.m., at Arapahoe Christian Church with the Rev. David Welch officiating. Burial is at Arapahoe Cemetery.
Viewing and visitation is Saturday, 1-8 p.m., and Sunday, 1-8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe, and prior to the service at the church.
