Rex C. Schroeder

OBERLIN, Kansas -- Rex C. Schroeder, 85, died Sunday (June 12, 2011) in Oberlin.

He was born Feb. 17, 1926, in Thomas County, Kansas, to Emil C. and Bertie (Entwhistle) Schroeder. He was raised in Thomas County and his education was in Brewster, Kansas.

He married Des Moines Stickel in 1947. He married Ethel Stanley in 1975.

He lived in Oberlin, where he worked as a businessman for more than 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Schroeder; son, Anthony Schroeder; his parents; and brother, Glenn Schroeder.

He is survived by his sons, Rod and wife, Gwen Schroder of Hugo, Colorado, and Bob and wife, Alice Stanley of Oberlin; daughters, Sherry and husband, Bill Arnott of Bluffton, South Carolina, Judy Fritz of Hinesburg, Vermont, and Darlene and husband, Mike Johnson of Grand Rapids, Michigan; brother, Ray Schroeder of Andrews, Texas; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are Thursday, 10 a.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with Mr. Sid Metcalf officiating. Interment is in the Oberlin Cemetery.

There is no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rex Schroeder Memorial Fund.
