Eris M. Young

OBERLIN, Kansas -- Eris Madeline (Wenger) Young, 87, died Wednesday (June 8, 2011) at Decatur Health Systems in Oberlin.
She was born June 23, 1923, the daughter of Alvin W. and Arvida V. (Anderson) Wenger, in the Lund community of Decatur County, Kansas. She was raised in the Lund community where she attended grade school at Swede Home School. She graduated from Decatur Community High School in Oberlin with the Class of 1940.
After high school, she worked in California. Upon returning, she was employed at the McCook Air Force Base in civilian payroll. It was in McCook that she met Dale D. Young. They were married Dec. 28, 1945, at the Lund Covenant Church. Soon after, they moved to Oberlin.
She was a homemaker and also a business partner with her husband in Young Construction Company and later in their wholesale/retail sporting goods company, Dale's Fish 'n' Fun, Inc., which they started in 1961. She retired in 1984.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Oberlin and the United Methodist Women. She was also a charter member of Pi Alpha club and a member of Chapter BH of PEO.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Dwight and Duane Wenger.
Survivors include her husband Dale; three children, Gary and Nancy Young of Manhattan, Kansas, Candace and Joe Dejmal of Oberlin and Terri and Bob Woolsey of Oberlin; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Oberlin with Rev. Linda Willey officiating. Burial is in Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m. at the Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin and Saturday from 8 a.m. until service time at the church.
Memorials may be made in her name to United Methodist Church in Oberlin.
