NORTH PLATTE, Nebraska -- Hazel I. DeVaughn, 88, formerly of North Platte, died Tuesday (May 24, 2011) at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
She was born Sept. 8, 1922, near Alexandria, Nebraska to George William and Clara Alice Joe Lovercheck, the second oldest of nine children. She graduated from Alexandria High School with a teaching certificate in music.
On Feb. 14, 1940, she married Chet DeVaughn. To this union three children were born.
She worked at J.C. Penney Co. for 17 years in the Window Covering and Fabric Department. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and Sweet Adelines for many years.
Survivors include her three children, Lawauna and husband, Keith Hardy of Toquervill, Utah, Nancy and husband, Dan Schwery of Mitchell, Nebraska, and Chet and wife, Donna DeVaughn of McCook, Nebraska; brother, William and wife, Katy Lovercheck of Omaha, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are Satruday, 11 a.m., at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte with the Rev. Tom Wiles officiating.
Visitation with the family is Friday, 4-7 p.m., at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.
