Floyd W. League

WALES, Massachusetts -- Floyd W. League, 89, of Wales, Massachusetts died May 9, 2011 at Wing Memorial Hospital in Palmer, Massachusetts.
He was born in Stratton, Nebraska, to Floyd F. and Nellie (Overdin) League. He graduated from Stratton High School in 1939.
He served in the United States Navy and was at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. He also served on the USS Frazier and USS Missouri.
Before his retirement, he was employed at South Shore Refrigeration in Bay Shore, Long Island, New York. He had lived in Wales for the past 28 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Margaret Roustio and Mildred Pollaro; and two brothers, Rueben W. League and Leon R. League.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, June P. (Walker) League; one son, William League of Kalkaska, Michigan; two daughters, Barbara J. Lawlor of Dennis, Massachusetts and Patricia E. League of South Portland, Maine; three step-sons, James Keats of Springfield, Massachusetts, Elizabeth Keats of Greyslake, Illinois, and Thomas Keats of San Francisco, California; one brother, Thomas League of Umatilla, Oregon; four sisters, Lorraine Real of McCook, Arletta Matthews of Indianola, Mary Bauer of Kalispell, Montana and Ruth Cook of Aurora, Colorado; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed to any veteran's organization.
A memorial service, with military honors, was Sunday at the Varnum Funeral Home in West Brookfield, Massachusetts.
