Betty Joan Pinkerton
BENKELMAN, Nebraska -- Betty Joan Pinkerton, daughter of Paul R. and Jennie (Lucas) Headrick was born March 2, 1931, on her maternal grandparents farm near Palmyra, Nebraska. She attended schools in Holdrege, Alexandria and Beatrice, Nebraska, Creston, Iowa, Ashland and Mead Nebraska, where she graduated with the class of 1949. With her parents and two brothers, she moved to Benkelman on July 4, 1950.
She was united in marriage to Gerald V. Pinkerton on July 1, 1953, and to this union one son, Gary Edward was born. Betty Jo worked for 40 years at the Benkelman Telephone Company, where she started as a switchboard operator, staying on after the dial system was installed. After retiring, Betty would still fill in at the telephone office when needed.
Betty was very involved with the community. Betty was a member of the Bowlettes bowling, member of the Stratton VFW, lifetime member of the American Legion of Benkelman, East Ward city council, zoning committee, election board, and former Rebekah member, as well as many other organizations.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Jennie Headrick and sister, Joyce McDonald.
She leaves to morn her passing husband, Gerald; son, Gary and wife, Siriluck of Thailand; brother, Clint of Benkelman; brother, Jon and wife, Jeanette of Lincoln, Nebraska; and many good friends.
