CHAMPION, Nebraska -- Henry Meeske, 97, died Saturday (April 30, 2011) at the Heritage Estates Care Facility in Gering, Nebraska.
He was born Nov. 6, 1913, to August F. and Clara M. (Greim) Meeske at the family farm near Champion, Nebraska. He attended school in the valley and graduated from the University of Nebraska Ag Farm Short Course in 1934.
On Aug. 27, 1939, he married Dorothy K. Popp at Emanuel Lutheran Church near Champion. They lived on a farm in the Champion valley where the couple farmed and raised cattle. He was a long-time member of the U.S. Soil Conservation Service, Nebraska Cattlemen, and the Nebraska Wheat Grower's Associations. He was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Imperial, Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy in 1991; daughter, Judy; son, Lloyd; and sisters, Pauline Meeske and Irene Gestring.
Survivors include his son, Kenneth Meeske and wife, Ruby of Paris, Texas; daughter, Alisa Rindels and husband, Dean of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; sister, Leona (Meeske) Albin of Foosland, Illinois; brother-in-law, Victor Gestring of Imperial; seven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church of Imperial with the Rev. David Kahle officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial.
Visitation is today until 7 p.m. at Liewer Funeral Home in Imperial.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Imperial Public Library or donor's choice.
