Elden J. Long

OBERLIN, Kansas -- Elden J. Long, 76, died Friday (April 29, 2011) at Decatur County Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin.
He was born Sept. 14, 1934, in rural Norcatur, Kansas, to Wilbur and Jennie (Wilsford) Long. He was raised in rural Norcatur and graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1952.
On Oct. 6, 1956, he married Marilou Berndt in Oberlin. The couple lived on a farm in rural Norcatur then moved to Oberlin in 2007.
He was a farmer and rancher.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge, Kansas Livestock Association and American Hereford Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Emma Frickey; and grandson, Geoffrey Long.
Survivors include wife, Marilou Long of Oberlin; sons, Greg and wife, Mary Long and Brad and wife, Shanna Long, all of Oberlin; daughter, Linda and husband, Brad Wade of Oberlin; sisters, Odetta and husband, Wayne Marietta of Russell, Kansas, and Wava Williams of Hastings, Nebraska; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were today at Faith Lutheran Church in Oberlin with the Rev. Charlotte Stracker-Baseler. Interment is in the Oberlin Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the church or Decatur County Good Samraitan Center.
