Gloria Ann Lawson

COLBY, Kansas -- Gloria Ann Lawson passed from this life on April 26, 2011, in Colby. She was 68.

She was born Feb. 17, 1943, in Des Moines, Iowa to Floyd and Lavona Bard Nelson.

Gloria grew up in Palisade, Nebraska and graduated from Palisade High School. After graduation she attended Parks School of Business in Denver, Colorado. Upon completion of her courses, Gloria worked for Martin-Marietta.

On June 10, 1962, she was united in marriage to Gerald "Jerry" William Lawson. Three children blessed this union, Ray, Christy and John. Most of the time Gloria was a stay-at-home mom, whose main interest was to see the growth and development of her children.

They moved to Maywood, Nebraska in the fall of 1963.

Gloria worked temporarily as Maywood Village Clerk and at the Maywood Co-op. She was employed at Ace Hardware in North Platte, Nebraska for 20 years.

Gloria was a member of the Maywood United Methodist Church. For many years she served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent and as a member of the United Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her three children, Raymond (Pamela) Lawson of Hampton, Nebraska, Christine (Martin) Gugelman of Colby and John (Shannon) Lawson of Hampton; sister, Karen (Dick) Thurin of Grant, Nebraska; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are Friday, April 29, 2011, 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Maywood with Pastor Stan LaRue officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in the Palisade Cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday, April 28, 2011, from 1-8 p.m. with the family greeting friends between 4-8 p.m. at Carpenter- Breland Funeral Home in McCook.
