ARAPAHOE, Nebraska -- Helene Ann Dickmeyer, 84, died Monday (April 4, 2011) at C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe.

She was born Jan. 2, 1927, north of Arapahoe in Gosper County, Nebraska, to Karl Frederick Julius "KFJ" and Ida Louise (Hartman) Wendland.

She grew up on the family farm in the Elk Creek Community. She was baptized on Jan. 30, 1927, and confirmed on May 18, 1941, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She attended high school in Arapahoe and graduated in 1945.

Following high school, she attained a teaching certificate and taught school at a rural school North-West of Arapahoe for several years. She later worked at the Army Ammunition Depot in Hastings, Nebraska.

Helene married Richard Henry William Dickmeyer at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Jan. 25, 1948. They made their home on a farm located three miles north of Arapahoe.

Helene became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe following her marriage to Richard. She taught Saturday and Sunday school for many years and was also a member of the Lutheran Woman's Mission League.

In addition to helping manage the family farm, Helene worked for a number of years at BD in Holdrege, Nebraska. Helene later took a position at C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe, where she served as a CSM for more than 20 years. Following retirement, she volunteered many hours at Trinity's Mission Mall in Arapahoe.

Helene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard in 2005; brothers, Carl Wendland, Max and wife, Esta Wendland, Leonard and wife, Anna Wendland, Martin and wife, Dora Wendland, George Wendland and Victor and wife, Helen Wendland; and sisters, Henrietta and husband, Walter Warner, Emma and husband, Martin Monter, Elvira and husband, Harold Bloch, Bertha and husband, Frank Kalthoff and Margaret and husband, Leonard Dahms.

Survivors include her sons, Richard Dickmeyer of Arapahoe, Kim Dickmeyer and wife, Stephanie of Julesburg, Colorado, Gary Dickmeyer and wife, Claire of Stuttgart, Germany, and David Dickmeyer and wife, Cindy of Arapahoe; daughter, Rosellen Dickmeyer of Arapahoe; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. James Moshier officiating. Burial is at Arapahoe Cemetery in Arapahoe.

Viewing and visitation is Friday, 9 a.m. - 8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe.
