Fern Cain

COLUMBIA, Missouri -- Fern Cain, 93, died Sunday, March 13, 2011, at Lenoir Woods Nursing Home in Columbia following a brief illness.
She was born January 28, 1918, in Beaver City, Nebraska, to the late Earl and Merle Kinsman. She graduated from Beaver City High School in 1936.
On Oct. 3, 1939, she married Ward S. Cain in Oberlin, Kansas. Fern was employed on the assembly line at Lockheed Aircraft in California during World War II while Ward was serving in the U.S. Army in Europe.
They returned to McCook in 1946, where they made their home until Ward's retirement from the Burlington Northern Railroad in 1975. The couple moved to Prescott, Arizona in 1980, and were there until Ward's death on July 12, 1995. Fern then moved to Lincoln, Nebraska for four years before relocating to Columbia in 1999.
She was a regular volunteer at the Columbia Area Senior Center from 1999 until shortly before her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Ted.
Fern is survived by her son, Larry Cain of Columbia; one brother, Robert of Carlsbad, California; and sister, Fay of Newhall, California.
Graveside inurnment is today at Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.
