LEMOYNE, Nebraska -- Robert E. Thompson, 81, died Tuesday (March 15, 2011), at the Ogallala Hospital.

He was born May 30, 1929, to Raymond and Wilma (Bannister) Thompson in Hayes Center, Nebraska. He grew up in Hayes Center, graduating from Hayes Center High School.

Robert was united in marriage to Creda Carr on Sept. 25, 1953, and they had four children that they raised on a farm four miles east of Hayes Center.

In 1968, he moved his family to Chadron, Nebraska, and in 1971 the family relocated to Gering, Nebraska, where he worked at the Scottsbluff Sugar Factory until he retired in 1991.

Since retiring he has been living at Lake McConaughy near Ogallala, Nebraska.

He is survived by daughters, Deon Evans of Kearney, Nebraska, Brenda Brown of North Platte, Nebraska, Jill (Terry Parks) Gurney of Lincoln, Nebraska; son, Troy (Kathy) Thompson of Hays, Kansas; sister, Shirley (Roy) Bobo; and step-sister, Priscilla Stark; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and his companion, Charlotte Markwardt of North Platte.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Wilbur.

Funeral services are Saturday, 11 a.m., at Union Congregational Church in Hayes Center with the Rev. Jean Miller officiating. Burial is at the Hayes Center Cemetery.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte.
