ARAPAHOE, Nebraska -- Leland E. McCoy, 84, died Sunday (March 13, 2011), at Cambridge Memorial Hospital in Cambridge, Nebraska.
He was born June 5, 1926, southwest of Arapahoe, to Stanley P. and Ethel M. (Holloway) McCoy. He attended District No. 36 country school south of Holbrook, Nebraska through the eighth grade. Then the family moved to Oregon were he graduated from Monmouth High School in Monmouth, Oregon, with the Class of 1944. In the summer of 1945, they moved back to Arapahoe.
He entered into service in 1952 and was stationed in Alaska. After serving his country, he returned back to the family farm south of Arapahoe to work with his father and brother.
On April 12, 1957, he married Donna L. Breinig at First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe. They made their home south of Arapahoe.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and American Legion Post No. 96, both of Arapahoe.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two infant sons, Marvin and Gerry McCoy.
He is survived by his wife, Donna McCoy of Arapahoe; son, Allan and wife, Sally McCoy of Arapahoe; daughter, Ronna and husband, Joe Cutlas of Grand Island, Nebraska; brother, Dean and wife, Fern McCoy of Arapahoe; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services are Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. Michael Flury officiating. Burial is in the Arapahoe Cemetery with military rites given by the Arapahoe American Legion Post No. 96.
Viewing and visitation is Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to the service at the church.
