LAKEWOOD, Colorado -- Lorena M. Hixon, 92, passed away Wednesday (Feb. 9, 2011), at Villa Manor Nursing Home in Lakewood.

Lorena was born on July 30, 1918, in Madrid, Nebraska to Scott and Ethel (Erlewine) Evans. She graduated from Grant High School.

On Dec. 24, 1938, she was united in marriage to Guy Hixon at Grant. To this union seven children were born. They lived in the Wauneta, Imperial and McCook, Nebraska communities for many years where Guy ran the family business and Lorena was a busy homemaker and mother.

She was a member of the McCook Egan Park Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening and was an avid Husker fan. When her health started failing, she moved to Lakewood in 2005 to be closer to family.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Scott and Ethel Evans; her beloved husband of 52 years, Guy Hixon on Feb. 25,1990; and her daughter, Mary Lou Hixon.

She is survived by her daughter, Beverly and husband, Wolf Stumpf of Lakewood; son, Jerry Hixon and wife, Madeline of Fort Collins, Colorado; daughter, Sharon and husband, John Hupf of Riverton, Wyoming; daughter, Catherine and husband, Tom O'Shea of Turner, Oregon; son, Bill Hixon and wife, Carol of Cripple Creek, Colorado; daughter, Patricia and husband, Michael Bagwell of Lakewood; sister, Betty Bogaert of Madrid; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.

Funeral services are Wednesday, 1 p.m. MST, at Champion Community Church with Kent Swink officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial.

We are here to put our loving mother and friend to rest. She is now in God's hands, where there is no better place to be.
