ARAPAHOE, Nebraska -- Floyd Duane "Corky" Breinig, 77, died Thursday (Jan. 27, 2011) at Holdrege Memorial Homes.

He was born Aug. 10, 1933, to Floyd and Mamie (King) Breinig on a farm southwest of Arapahoe. He graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1950.

On Feb. 28, 1954, he married Barbara Land at the Arapahoe Methodist Church. To this union, four children were born: Steve, Vickie, Scott and Wendy.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955--57 as a communications officer. Upon returning home to Arapahoe, he farmed and lived on the home place until spring of 2010. Due to poor health, he moved to Holdrege to live with his daughter, Wendy and her family, and then later to Holdrege Memorial Homes until the time of his death.

He was a member of the Arapahoe Christian Church, where he served as a deacon for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara; brother, Charles; sister, Eula Faye (Fritz) McCoy; sisters-in-law, Earline and husband, Bob Kruse, Shirley and husband, Leo Tawzer and June Breinig.

He is survived by his children Steve and wife, Ruth Breinig of Lincoln, Nebraska, Vickie and husband, Jim Traver of Elmwood, Nebraska, Scott and wife, Pam Breinig of Arapahoe, and Wendy and husband, Mike Pruitt of Holdrege; sister, Lula and husband, Chuck Six of Arapahoe; brother, Vic and wife, Kelli Breinig of Arapahoe; 11 grandchildren; and four great-granddaughters.

Funeral services are today, 10:30 a.m., at the Arapahoe Christian Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. David Welch officiating. Burial is at the Arapahoe Cemetery in Arapahoe. Military rites presented by American Legion Post No. 343 of Edison.
