HERNDON, Kansas -- Jean Ann Leitner, 58, died Monday (Jan. 17, 2011), at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

She was born June 3, 1952, in McCook, Nebraska, to Charles and Virginia (Grafel) Portschy. She was raised in Herndon. She graduated from Herndon High School in 1970 and Fort Hays State University in 1974.

After college she lived in Herndon where she was a registered nurse.

On July 26, 1975, she married Danny Joe Leitner.

She was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Danny Joe Leitner of Herndon; sons, Jeffrey and wife, Danielle Leitner of Oberlin, Kansas; daughter, Jennifer Leitner of Wichita, Kansas; brother, Leon and wife, Marita Portschy of Herndon; sister, Charlotte Smith of Buhler, Kansas; and two granddaughters.

Funeral services are Friday, 10 a.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with Mr. Dennis Brown and the Rev. Joel Garavaglin-Macorano. Interment is in Immanuel UCC Cemetery in Herndon, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Decatur County Cancer Society, Decatur County Health Systems, or Hays Medical Center ICU.

Visitation is Thursday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., at the funeral home with a celebration of life for family and friends at 7:30 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. until the service.
