OBERLIN, Kansas -- Hubert Mumm, 90, died Sunday (Jan. 16, 2011), at Good Samaritan Society-Decatur County in Oberlin.
He was born Sept. 19, 1920, northwest of Selden, Kansas in Sheridan County, Kansas, to Gottfried and Sarah (McDonald) Mumm. He was raised on a farm northwest of Selden and graduated from Selden Rural High School in 1929.
After high school, he lived in rural Selden, then on a farm in Rawlins County, and then in Oberlin. He was a farmer and rancher.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four siblings, Gottfried, Julia Ann, Paul and Fritz; and six brothers-in-law, Gene Rogers, John Douglas, Stan Rogers, S.J. Ritter, Charlie Raile, and Dale Wright.
Survivors include his three brothers, Charles "Bud" and wife, Vicky of Gem, Kansas, Clem and wife, Pat of Colby, Kansas, and Kenny of Selden; eight sisters, Anogene Rogers of Rexford, Kansas, Josephine Douglas of Greeley, Colorado, Eleanor Rogers of Selden, Margaret and husband, Gene Roy of Atwood, Kansas, Dolores Raile of Hoxie, Kansas, Alberta Ritter of Oberlin, Clara and husband, Richard Newton of Denver, Colorado, and Judy and husband, Gordon Smith of Greeley; and one sister-in-law, Gail Mumm of Selden.
Funeral services are Thursday, 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Selden with the Rev. Mark Berland officiating. Burial is in the Selden Cemetery.
Visitation is Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Thursday, 8-10 a.m., at the funeral home in Selden.
Vigil is Wednesday, 7 p.m., at the funeral home in Selden.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sleden, St. Mary's Catholic Church in Herndon, and Good Samaritan Society-Decatur County in Oberlin.
