ELWOOD, Nebraska -- Clyde Ray Lofquist, 85, died Sunday (Dec. 26, 2010), at Elwood Care Center in Elwood.

He was born Oct. 7, 1925, in Harlan County, Nebraska to Andrew Melvin and Ada (York) Lofquist. He grew up near Rock Falls, in Loomis, Nebraska. He attended Loomis High School.

On Aug. 14, 1948, he married Marjorie Elinor Bonser in Holdrege, Nebraska. They lived near Bertrand, Nebraska and Elwood before moving into Elwood in 1964.

In May 1970, they purchased a welding business with their son, Steven and their other sons joined later.

He was baptized at an early age and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, M. Elinor Lofquist of Elwood; sons, Steven and wife, Arlene Lofquist of Elwood, Donald and wife, Kay Lofquist of Elwood, Gary and wife, Cindy Lofquist of Grand Island, Nebraska, and Stuart Lofquist of Mesa, Arizona; daughters, Nancy Cargill of Scotia, Nebraska, Rosalie and husband, Robert Hathaway of Omaha, Nebraska; brother, Wayne and wife, Roma Jean Lofquist of Bertrand; sister, Doris Reisig of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services are Friday, 10 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Elwood with the Rev. Connie Karr officiating. Inurnment is at the Elwood Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church of Elwood and the Elwood Care Center.
