McCOOK, Nebraska -- Carolyn Jane Christie, 77, passed away Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2010, at Community Hospital in McCook.

Carolyn was born on July 2, 1933, in Oberlin, Kansas to Ralph Edward and Phyllis Ruth (Mousel) King. She moved to the Cambridge community as a small child where she received her education graduating from high school in 1951.

She taught school in several locations including Nebraska, Oregon, and Arizona. On Oct. 29, 1960, she was united in marriage to Robert Lewis Christie in Cambridge. To this union three children were born. She continued to be a busy homemaker, mother, and grandmother as well as a part-time teacher at McCook Community College until her retirement.

Carolyn was a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church and Altar Guild. She was also a member of PEO Chapter X, a 50-year member of the Daughter's of American Revolution (DAR) where she held a position in every office, and served as secretary/treasurer of the United Way. Her hobbies included playing bridge with her many friends, golfing, fishing, an avid fan of the Huskers, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Ralph and Phyllis King.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Bob Christie of McCook; son, Rob Christie of Holton, Kansas; two daughters, Kara and husband, Shannon Walker, of Hastings and Kim Henggeler of Lincoln; five grandchildren, Ashley, Jacob, Lawrence, Jessica, and Christopher; two great-granddaughters, Athena and Autumn; one sister, Brenda Lou Huxoll of Cambridge; five nephews Doug, Mike, Mitch, and Kurtis Huxoll; numerous family and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given in her name to St. Alban's Episcopal Church or McCook Community Hospital.

Friends may sign her book at the funeral home during business hours.

Memorial services are Wednesday, 10 a.m., at St. Alban's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Rick Moon officiating. A private family interment will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska.
