OBERLIN, Kansas -- James W. Plotts, 93, died Monday (Dec. 27, 2010), at Cedar Living Center in Oberlin.
He was born May 11, 1917, in rural Oberlin, to Leroy C. and Mary E. (Dees) Plotts. He was raised on the family farm northeast of Oberlin and graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1939.
After high school, he worked as a farmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Waymond Plotts; two sisters, Olive Dean and Naomi Christensen ; a grandson, Jeremy Plotts; three nephews, Clyde, William, and Lowell Plotts; and one niece, Jackie Garver.
He is survived by sons, James and wife, Carolyn Plotts of Norcatur, Kansas and Gene and wife, Mary Lou Plotts of rural Oberlin; daughter, Mary and husband, Roger Bennett of McCook, Nebraska; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Funeral services are Friday, 10 a.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin. A private family interment will follow.
Visitation is Thursday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday, 8 a.m. until service.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for memorials to be made to James W. Plotts Memorial Fund or in his name.
