John R. Wright

OAKLEY, Kansas -- John R. Wright, 80, died Thursday (Dec. 23, 2010), at Logan County Manor in Oakley, Kansas.

He was born Dec. 21, 1930, to Glenn and Bessie (Reeves) Wright at Atwood, Kansas. He was raised in Atwood, and graduated from Atwood High School in 1948. In 1957, he graduated from Kansas State University.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard.

On June 1, 1956, he married Patricia Allison at Brewster, Kansas. They lived in Oberlin, moving to Oakley last year.

He was a school administrator.

He was a member of Oberlin United Methodist Church, Oberlin American Legion Post No. 70, Masonic Lodge, Lions Club, Rotary and Kiwanis.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Wright of Oakley; two sons, Michael and wife, Susan Wright of Lawrence, Kansas and John D. Wright of Kansas City, Kansas; one daughter, Mary and husband, Gary Stoecker of Oakley; one brother, Robert Wright of Gainesville, Florida; one sister, Marjorie Robbins of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at the United Methodist Church in Oberlin, with the Rev. Linda Willey officiating. Interment will follow at the Oberlin Cemetery.

Visitation is Wednesday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., with the family present from 4-6 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home. It will continue Thursday, 8 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
