Ivan 'Dale' Dockery

HAYES CENTER, Nebraska -- Ivan "Dale" Dockery, 61, passed away Monday (Dec. 6, 2010) at the V.A. Pittsburg Health Care System in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.
Dale was born Oct. 3, 1949, in Covington, Oklahoma to James and Omeree (Lancaster) Dockery. At the passing of his mother, Dale was raised by his grandmother, Hildred Perrin. He received his education in Covington Schools.
On Aug. 16, 1968, he entered the U.S. Army in Enid, Oklahoma and served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged Jan. 3, 1971, and reenlisted until Jan. 10, 1975, when he was honorably discharged and was the recipient of two purple hearts.
Dale was united in marriage to Cathy Ann Stanley in Yadkinville, North Carolina Dec. 19, 1981. They made their home in several locations before settling in the Hayes Center community where he drove cross-country in a truck for GMT Transport.
He was a member of North American Hunting and Fishing Clubs. He loved hunting, fishing, watching western movies, and riding horses. His grandchildren were his ultimate pride and joy.
Preceding him in death were his parents and grandparents.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy Dockery of Hayes Center; sons, Steven Dockery, and Bryan Dockery and wife, Yolanda, all of Imperial, Nebraska; daughters, Susan and husband, Mike Redmond, of King, North Carolina, Melanie and husband, James Lewis of Statesville, North Carolina, Dawn and husband, Bruce Hagan Jr. of Culbertson, Nebraska, Shannon Dockery and Kayla Dockery, both of North Platte, Nebraska; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are Friday, 2 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Chapel in McCook with the Hayes Center Veteran's Honor Guard presenting the flag and the Rev. James Lewis officiating. Cremation will follow the service and a private family inurnment will be held at a later time.
