McCOOK, Nebraska -- Virginia Beth (Albrecht) Staley passed away Dec. 6, 2010, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.
Virginia was born Jan. 21, 1926, to Theo and Velma (Grovert) Albrecht on the Albrecht homestead southwest of Holbrook, Nebraska. At an early age she moved to a farm north of Holbrook where she grew up attending rural school and graduating from Cambridge High School in 1942. She attended McCook Junior College and the Barns School of Commerce in Denver, Colorado. While in Denver she worked for the Gates Rubber Co., later moving to Omaha, Nebraska where she worked for G.L. Martin, Co.
On Sept. 19, 1945, she married Willis Staley and to this union two daughters were born. After Willis' discharge from the U.S. Navy they made their home living in Denver, McCook, Indianola, Nebraska; Huron, South Dakota; and Billings, Montana, before moving back to McCook in 1981. During this period she worked at Gamble Roberson in McCook, a telephone company in Denver, and First Interstate Bank in Billings.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Brownie leader, active in 4-H, enjoyed dancing, playing bridge, spending time with friends and most of all time with her girls and grandchildren. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church and was a Sunday School teacher while in Huron.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Theo and Velma Albrecht.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Willis Staley of McCook; daughters, Candice Godfrey and husband, Glenn of Billings and Diane Staley of Glendale, Arizona; granddaughter, Jessica Baracker of Billings; grandson, Kyle Giest of Glendale; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorials may be given in her name to the Alzheimer's Association or the McCook Senior Center.
Funeral services are Thursday, 2 p.m., at First Congregational Church in McCook with Pastor Steve Bales officiating. Burial is in the Cambridge Cemetery.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6--8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.
