ORD, Nebraska -- Esther J. Sedlacek, 74, died Monday (Nov. 22, 2010), at the Valley County Health System Hospital in Ord.

Esther Joanne was born July 19, 1936, in Indianola, Nebraska to Harry Albert "Babe" Schamel and Adelaide Ethel Marie Junker. She grew up in Indianola and graduated from Indianola High School in 1954. She attended Grand Island Business School.

On Oct. 14, 1959, she married George Sedlacek in McCook, Nebraska. The couple lived on a farm near Ord. She was a farm wife and also cooked at the District 26 school. She worked at Daylight Donuts for 15 years and for 12 years at Mid-Nebraska Individual Services as a caregiver.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Valley County Republican Committee, Election Committee and served on the District 26 School Board.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters, Helen Waltz, Elsie Werschke, and Iona Harnard.

She is survived by two sons, Doug and wife, Leora Sedlacek of Ord, John and wife, Patty Sedlacek of Columbus, Texas; daughter, Tiffany and husband, Chad DeNoyer of Ord; two brothers, Donald and wife, Joann Schamel of McCook, and Robert and wife, Doris Schamel of Ellis, Kansas; two sisters, Roberta Brooks of Bartley, Nebraska, and Ruth Stewart of McCook; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are Wednesday, 10 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Ord with the Rev. Mark Middendorf officiating. Interment is Wednesday, 2 p.m., at the Indianola City Cemetery in Indianola with the Rev. Sherry J. Sklenar officiating.

Visitation is today, 6-8 p.m., at Ord Memorial Chapel.
