ELWOOD, Nebraska -- Fern B. Staedelin, 94, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Saturday (Nov. 20, 2010), at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.

She was born Sept. 2, 1916, on the family farm in Gosper County, Nebraska to Benjamin and Mamie (Houlden) Miles.

She married Eugene Staedelin in October of 1947. They made their home on the farm at the west edge of Elwood. He died in August of 1960.

She stayed on the farm until 1998 when she would move into Lexington. She was a dental assistant for Doctor Hawley at his office in Elwood for many years.

She was past Noble Grand of Mariah Washington Rebekah Lodge, past District President of Rebekah Lodge, and past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star of Elwood. She was also a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene ; brother, Lester Miles; and five sisters, Elva Willey, Alta Buehner, Phyllis McCleary-Morales, Oletta Engelhart, and Opal Hansen.

She is survived by her sister, Verna Blankenship of Prescott, Arizona; special nephew, Glen Miles of New York, New York, formerly of Elwood; and other nieces and nephews.

Graveside services are Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Elwood Cemetery in Elwood with the Rev. Lawrence Francis from the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Holdrege officiating.

There will be no viewing or visitation.
