LINCOLN, Nebraska -- Dorothy E. (McDonald) Cheney, 85, passed away Nov. 10, 2010, at Sunrise Country Manor in Milford, Nebraska.
Dorothy was born April 23, 1925, in McCook, Nebraska to Floyd and Lillian (Brisban) McDonald.
She married Mearled W. Cheney in a small ceremony in Kansas on April 27, 1947. Dorothy worked as a cosmetologist for more than 30 years, owning her own salon, the last of which was New Image Beauty Salon in Lincoln. She loved to crochet, sew, bake and to spend time with family and friends. Until recent years, she and her husband of 57 years, enjoyed playing cards, dancing and camping.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Mearled Cheney; parents; brothers, Robert and Charles McDonald; sister, Doris Pierce.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Robert and wife, Nancy Zicafoose of Arizona; son, Ronald W. Cheney of Texas; daughter, Susan and husband, Mannix Winningham of Lincoln; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas McDonald of Kansas; brother-in-law, Donald Cheney, and Robert and Melba Cheney, all of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Marilyn McDonald of Lincoln, and Lois Hamilton of McCook; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Memorial services are Saturday, 11:30 a.m., at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th Street, Lincoln. Interment will follow at Lincoln Memorial Park.
