ARAPAHOE, Nebraska -- Dan Henry Horton, 71, died Friday (Nov. 12, 2010), at C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe. He was born on Nov. 21, 1938, in Arapahoe to Van H. and Lora C. (Taylor) Horton. He grew up in Arapahoe and graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1957.

He went on to Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois. He would then attend Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska for one year before getting his degree at Creighton University School of Pharmacy in Omaha, Nebraska in 1963. He graduated with top honors from the program.

On March 12, 1966, he married Patricia Mathers, to this union two daughters were born. The couple would later divorce.

For 13 years he would work at Allen's Drug Store in North Platte, Nebraska and then owned Westfield Pharmacy for a number of years. He also worked at Walker Pharmacy in Sterling, Colorado and Safeway Pharmacy in Denver, Colorado. He would then move to McCook, Nebraska and work at Dave's U-Save Pharmacy were he would retire after 42 years in the pharmacy business.

He married Verna Raye Brown on May 12, 1991. The couple moved to C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Home of Arapahoe in 2007.

He was a member of the National Association of Retail Druggist, and the Rho Chi Pharmacentical Honor Society.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry Horton; sister, Sunny Ann Horton; and brother-in-law, Lyle Weber.

He is survived by his wife, Verna Raye Horton of Arapahoe; daughters, Tara and husband, Kelly Bagnell of Sidney, Nebraska, and Danette and husband, Edward Harvey of Thornton, Colorado; sister, Colleen Weber of Arapahoe; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe with the Revs. Michael Flury and Jon Albrecht officiating. Burial was at the Arapahoe Cemetery in Arapahoe.
