McCOOK, Nebraska -- Joseph Kalinski was born on a farm near McCook, the son of John and Emma (Weber) Kalinkski on Nov. 3, 1932, and left this world Nov. 14, 2010, at McCook Community Hospital.

Joe served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict.

He worked for the public power district for 43 years; retired and then worked as a security guard at Valmont for 11 years, retiring again in April 2010.

On Dec. 31, 1958, he married Jan Veronee.

Joe was preceded in death by his brother, Hans; and sisters, Erma Stuver, Addie Ballou and Babs Olson.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jan; daughters, Toni Wherley, Terri Mills; and sons, Troy, Tab, Tyler and Anthony; brothers, Adolph and John; sisters, Rosie Sitzman and Ruth McChesney; and 12 grandchildren.

Joe loved animals and every day for the last 20 years, he took grain to Barnett Park to give to the geese and ducks.

Joe will be missed by many people as well as by his beloved dog, Addie.

Memorials may be given in his name to the McCook Humane Society.

A private family ceremony will be held at a later date.
