McCOOK, Nebraska -- Van Ray Stevens was born Feb. 1, 1947, to Thomas Preston and Margaret (Ryan) Stevens at St. Catherine's Hospital in McCook. He left us quickly and quietly before we were ready for him to walk another path on Nov. 9, 2010, at Community Hospital.

Van graduated from Cambridge High School in 1965. He drove truck for several companies over the years, including WEW and Fritz Trucking of McCook and Crete Carrier of North Platte, Nebraska. He also worked for the city of McCook for 24 years.

Van enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting black powder rendezvous.

Van married Sandy (Alberts) Bose on April 7, 1977, in McCook. He helped raise her four sons and a son born to their union.

Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Rickie Bose; brother, Merle; step-sister, Maxine; step-brother, Leslie; in-laws, Alvin Alberts, Doris (Alberts) Fenney, Goodwin Fenney, Craig Alberts, and Stevie Alberts.

Van leaves his wife, Sandy Stevens; sons, Greg Stevens, Ronnie Bose, Dale Bose and wife, Liz, all of McCook, David Bose and wife, Kala of Oberlin, Kansas; four granddaughters; four grandsons; special aunt, Faye Lashley; and cousins, James Lashley, Art Lashley and wife, Carol.

Memorials may be made in his name in care of Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.

Funeral services are Friday, 10:30 a.m., at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation is one hour prior to the service at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.
