ORANGE, Connecticut -- Mildred Viola (League) Pollaro, 87, died Oct. 31, 2010, at the Willows Health Care Center in Woodbridge, Connecticut.

She was born Sept. 18, 1923, in Haigler, Nebraska, to Floyd and Nellie Viola Ovendon League. She attended rural country school before the family moved to Stratton, Nebraska. She attended and graduated from Stratton High School in 1940.

After school, she taught at rural country schools in Dundy, Hitchcock and Arthur Counties in Nebraska.

On Sept. 20, 1947, she married Joseph Barth Pollaro in Brooklyn, New York. The couple moved to Orange, Connecticut where she became Eucharistic Minister and Director of Religious Education for Holy Infant Church in Orange.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Nellie; husband, Joseph; two brothers, Leon League and Rueben League; sister, Margaret Rustio; five nephews; and three nieces.

She is survived by three children, Paul Pollaro and wife, Mary Ann of Woodbridge; Pamela Pollaro of Orange; and Rose East and husband, Ron of Oxford, Connecticut; two brothers, Floyd League and wife, June of Wales, Massachusetts and Thomes League and wife, Sandy of Umatilla, Oregon; four sisters, Arletta Matthews of Indianola, Nebraska, Lorraine Real of McCook, Nebraska, Mary Bauer and husband, Dwaine of Kalispel, Montana, and Ruth Cook of Aurora, Colorado; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial was Nov. 3, at Holy Infant Church in Orange. Interment followed at Mount St. Peter Cemetery in Derby, Connecticut.

Visitation was Nov. 2, at Cody-White Funeral Home in Milford, Connecticut.
