McCOOK, Nebraska -- Keith Leroy Moreland, 69, passed away Tuesday (Nov. 2, 2010) at the McCook Community Hospital.

Keith was born Jan. 9, 1941, in Ovid, Colorado to parents Lyle C. and LaVena (Gaines) Moreland. He was one of five children born to this union. Keith attended school in Boulder, Colorado, graduating in 1959. He then went on to attend NJC in Sterling, Colorado for the following two years.

Keith proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1959-65.

Keith married Leslie Haynes on Aug. 27, 1961. To this union, two children were born, Dean and Lori.

Following Leslie's death in 1965, Keith married Cheryl (Hartman) Moreland on Sept. 2, 1967 in Bird City, Kansas. The couple made their home near Last Chance, Colorado where Keith farmed. One child, Jeff, was born to their union.

The family later moved to Brush, Colorado where Keith worked as a butcher for Sigman's Pork Plant. He also worked as a meat inspector for Excel in Fort Morgan, Colorado. In 1991, Keith was promoted to a plant in Liberal, Kansas where he worked until his retirement. Following his retirement in 2002, Keith and Cheryl moved to McCook.

Throughout his life, Keith enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing golf, gardening, cooking and barbeque. He was also involved with Alcoholics Anonymous, the American Diabetes Association and the McCook United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Lavena Moreland; first wife, Leslie; and one brother, Boyd Moreland.

Keith is survived by his wife, Cheryl Moreland of McCook; children, Dean and wife, Deanna Moreland of Brimfield, Illinois, Lori Rios of Burlington, Colorado, and Jeff Moreland and wife, Felicia Trujillo of Hugoton, Kansas; brothers, Ron and wife, Barbara Moreland of Tucson, Arizona, and Phil and wife, Karren Moreland of Phoenix, Arizona; sister, Oma Crega of Gilbert, Arizona; six grandchildren, Christine, Eddie, Samantha, Michael, Dustin, Devon and Isaac; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Memorial services are Monday, 10 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in McCook with Pastor Lance Clay officiating. An inurnment with Military Honors will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the McCook Alcoholics Anonymous and the American Diabetes Association.
