OBERLIN, Kansas -- Marie F. McChesney, 87, died Tuesday (Nov. 2, 2010), at Decatur County Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin.
She was born Dec. 2, 1922, in Orleans, Nebraska to Carl H. and Tena (Jelken) Rohnke. She was raised in the Norcatur, Kansas area. She graduated from Norcatur High School in 1942.
On April 26, 1947, she married Gerald D. McChesney. The couple lived in Norcatur and moved to Oberlin after retirement. She worked at Norcatur High School and Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin as a cook.
She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by husband, Gerald; parents; six brothers; and four sisters.
She is survived by her son, Roger McChesney of Denver, Colorado; daughter, Mary Ellen Bourquin and husband, Dan of Alliance, Nebraska; brother, Ben Rohnke and wife, Deanna of Greeley, Colorado; sisters, Tena Weimer of McCook, Nebraska, Lillian Hartford and husband, Ray of East Helena, Montana, and Gladys Russ of East Helena, Montana; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are Monday, 1:30 p.m., at St. Mark's Church at Decatur County Museum in Oberlin with the Rev. Bill Duncan officiating. Interment is in the Norcatur Cemetery.
Memorials may be left in her name to the Butterfly Garden of Hope at Good Samaritan Center or St. Mark's Church at Decatur County Museum.
