DRESDEN, Kansas -- Steve E. Kathka, 59, died Thursday (Oct. 28, 2010), at his residence in Dresden.

He was born Dec. 8, 1950, in Oberlin, Kansas to Elmer and Colleen (White) Kathka. He was raised in Oberlin and graduated from Oberlin Elementary, Decatur Community High School, and St. John's Military. He was a member of the U.S. Army National Guard.

On Feb. 17, 1972, he married Linda Ferguson. The couple lived in the Oberlin area. He was a construction contractor. He was a member of the Oberlin American Legion Post No. 70 and the United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his son Kim Kathka; and sister, Mara Crawford.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; parents, Elmer Kathka of Oberlin, and Colleen Kathka of Lakewood, Colorado; brother, Warren Kathka of Fort Worth, Texas; sister, Marrianne and husband, Mike Ryno of Jefferson City, Missouri; and one grandchild.

Funeral services are Tuesday, 2 p.m., at the Oberlin Cemetery. Interment is in the Oberlin Cemetery.

There is no visitation.
