OBERLIN, Kansas -- Erlene M. Schroer, 90, died Friday (Oct. 8, 2010), at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.
She was born Nov. 2, 1919, in Kanona, Kansas, to Arthur and Florence (Spiers) Orr. She graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1938. After school she lived on the Schroer family farm near Dresden, Kansas until 1972 when she moved to Oberlin.
She married Francis J. Schroer on Aug. 27, 1940, in Leoville, Kansas. She worked as deputy clerk for the district court.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altar Society, and Zeta Nu, all of Oberlin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Florence Orr; husband, Francis; son, Renald; and brother, Loyde Orr
She is survived by five sons, Ronald S. and wife, Barbara Schroer of Lansing, Kansas; Alan and wife, Linda Schroer of Santa Clara, California; Merlin Schroer of Oberlin; Don and wife, Janelle Schroer of Colby, Kansas; and Brian and wife, Linda Schroer of Dresden; three daughters, Elaine and husband, John Moellering of Grinnell, Kansas; Karen and husband, Brad Gregory of Grants Pass, Oregon, and Ronda Schroer of Oberlin; brother, Roy Orr of Canton, Illinois; sister, Evelyn Meitl of Oberlin; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oberlin with the Rev. Mark Berland officiating. Interment is in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Leoville, Kansas.
Visitation was Sunday at Pauls Funeral Home.
Vigil services were Sunday at the funeral home.
