Two local foundations honored on National Philanthropy Day
Lincoln, Nebraska -- The Nebraska Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals will honor seven individuals, a corporation and a foundation at its annual National Philanthropy Day luncheon on Nov. 17, 2010 at the Embassy Suites Downtown in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Among them are the Kitty M. Perkins Foundation and Shoemaker Family Foundation, Cambridge of Cambridge, honored as the Outstanding Foundation -- nominated by the Nebraska Humanities Council.
The Kitty M. Perkins Foundation is dedicated to giving money to charities that help sustain rural communities with priority given to projects benefiting Nebraska, especially Southwestern Nebraska. The Shoemaker Family Foundation, established by Ome and Honor Jane Shoemaker, also focuses on Southwestern Nebraska, giving to health, education, and civic-related projects. Throughout the years, many non-profits have benefitted from the generosity of both Foundations, including Nebraska Public Radio and Television, the University of Nebraska, Hastings College, the Nebraska Humanities Council, Doane College, Cambridge Memorial Hospital and grants to support public libraries, cancer research, community development and other projects.
According to Meg Johnson, National Philanthropy Day Chair, "Our 2010 honorees have made a tremendous impact through their giving and service to humankind. It is a privilege to be able to honor their critical work in advancing the mission of so many non-profit agencies."
National Philanthropy Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of giving and all that it has made possible.
First held in 1986, NPD celebrates the endless daily contributions individuals and organizations across the world make to countless causes and missions.
