Big weekend couldn't have been much better

Monday, September 27, 2010

It doesn't get much better than that, folks.

We're trying to get as much as possible about the big weekend into today's edition of the Gazette, but don't be surprised if you see more photos about Heritage Days, the Grand Duke Alexis Rendezvous, the Stratton Fall Festival, the 75th anniversary of the Rural Electrification Administration, the dedication of the Keystone Business Center and other events published over the next few days.

We would have liked to have seen all of it, but that was physically impossible, given the constraints of time and space.

The weather was perfect and spirits were high throughout the weekend, with old friends getting reacquainted in the McCook High School Class of 1955, the McCook Air Base and the barbershop workshop.

The Heritage Day car show had the best participation in memory, and we can't remember seeing more motorcycles in the parade than on this Saturday.

The number of vendors in the park seemed to be strong, and the steak eating contest was a welcome addition to the fun.

Many of the events were unique, of course. We can't often have a dedication of the Keystone Hotel repurposed and refurbished into a business center, nor a 75th anniversary of the REA.

Our only complaint, if it can be called that, is the first point we made in this editorial -- there are too many events going on at the same time to see them all. We'd like to see events in McCook and other communities staggered so more of us could enjoy them.

Still, our hat's off to everyone who worked so hard to make this weekend's celebrations such a success.
