Delyla Weskamp

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Delyla M. (Schneider) Weskamp, 86, died on Friday (Sept. 10, 2010), in Lincoln, Nebraska.
She was born Oct. 29, 1923, to Peter T. and Mary C. (Giespert) Schneider in St. Ann, Nebraska, in a sod house. After graduating from Hayes County High School, Delyla taught in rural schools in Frontier County before marrying Lawrence (Mike) Weskamp on Feb. 17, 1947.
She was a farmer/rancher's wife in Red Willow and Hayes counties and drove the Hayes County school bus. They retired to McCook in 1983.
Her community volunteer involvement included county extension clubs, 4-H leadership, St. Ann's and St. Patrick's Churches and Altar Societies, McCook Community Hospital Auxiliary and St. Patrick's prayer chain.
She enjoyed crafts, crocheting and card playing. Her legacy to her family was to always be faithful and faith-filled, work hard, persevere during tough times and be resilient.
Delyla was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mike; brothers, Howard and Victor; and son-in-law, Dwight Cox.
Survivors include her two daughters, Carolyn and husband, Charles Gregorius of Lincoln, and Rose Cox of Comanche, Oklahoma; son, Kent Weskamp of Culbertson, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Keely Cox of Lawton, Oklahoma, Kerry and husband, Jerrid Cross of Waurika, Oklahoma, Kevin Gregorius of Minneapolis, Minnesota, David Gregorius of Kapaa, Hawaii, and Kurt Krammin of Vermillion, South Dakota; great-granddaughter, Clara Cross; sister, Opal Dolan of Cambridge, Nebraska; and nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial is Wednesday, 10 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook. Interment is in the Calvary Cemetery in McCook.
The rosary is Tuesday, 7 p.m., at Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook.
