Daniel Wayne Riener

MANHATTAN, Kansas - Daniel Riener, 24, passed away Wednesday (Sept. 8, 2010), at his home in Manhattan.
Daniel was born April 2, 1986, to Karol and Patricia (Marintzer) Riener at McCook Community Hospital in McCook, Nebraska. He was one of six children born to this union. Daniel attended school in Herndon, Kansas, graduating in 2004. He then went on to attend Kansas State University, majoring in civil engineering and graduated in May 2009.
During his college years, Daniel was known for his friendly personality. He had a contagious smile and never met a stranger. Daniel had a unique ability to create friendships. He could talk to anyone and make them feel special and included.
Daniel enjoyed lifting weights, spending time at the pool and watching sports. His favorite teams included the Kansas State Wildcats, Denver Broncos and Kansas City Royals. He also enjoyed being an official of high school sporting events. He played and coached softball as well.
After graduation, Daniel was employed by BG Consultants as a design engineer in Manhattan. He then went on to work for Central Kansas Engineering Consultants in Emporia, Kansas, also as a design engineer.
He continued his faith at St. Isidore's Catholic Church in Manhattan and was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Family was important to Daniel. Many memories were made working on the farm, laughing, joking and spending time together.
Daniel was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Rose Riener; brother, Michael Ryan Riener; paternal grandparents, Harry and Margaret (Ketterl) Riener; and maternal grandfather, Hubert Marintzer.
Survivors include his father, Karol Riener and wife, Jacque of Herndon, Kansas; brothers, John Riener and wife, Keri of Atwood, Kansas; James Riener and wife, Amy of Phillipsburg, Kansas; Jeffrey Riener of Manhattan; sister, Jessica Riener of the home; step-siblings, Calvin and Kayla Hughes of McCook; grandmother, Doris (Janousek) Marintzer of Oberlin; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
