Duane I. Phillips

BARTLEY, Nebraska -- Duane I. Phillips, 74, died Monday (Sept. 6, 2010) at McCook Community Hospital.
Duane was born on Jan. 24, 1936 in Fullerton, Nebraska to Irving D. and Mildred (Snodgrass) Phillips. He graduated from Central City High School in 1953. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1955 and worked in electronics, radar, gun sights and mechanics for F-105 fighter jets. He served for 13 years until his honorable discharge.
On Dec. 26, 1957, he was united in marriage to Carol A. Durham in Pineville, Lousiana and to this union three children were born.
In 1968, he went into the banking business starting at Overland National Bank in Grand Island, Nebraska. In 1981, he moved to Indianola, Nebraska where he worked for the Bank of Indianola until 1989 and later the State Bank of Bartley until his retirement in 2007.
Duane enjoyed youth baseball, woodworking and spending time in his yard.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Irving and Mildred Phillips.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Carol Phillips of Bartley; three children, Michael Phillips and wife, Theresa of Omaha, Nebraska, Kimberly and her husband, Mike Krecklow of Grand Island and Stacy Phillips and special friend, Bob Bishop of McCook; two sisters, Donna Tolliver of Elmwood, Nebraska and Helen and husband, David Webb of Longmont, Colorado; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services are Friday, 10 a.m., at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook with the Rev. Lance Clay officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Grand Island Cemetery on East Stolley Park Road at 3 p.m.
Visitation is Wednesday until 5 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Family will greet friends from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.
Memorials may be given in his name to the Nebraska Heart Institute.
