McCOOK, Nebraska -- Verna L. Dame, 77, died Saturday (Aug. 28, 2010) at Community Hospital in McCook.
Verna was born in Rawlins County, Kansas to Charles L. and Eleanora F. (Sramek) Sis on May 13, 1933. She graduated from Atwood High School in 1951. She continued her education at McCook Junior College, graduating with a teaching certificate. She taught in Cambridge and several rural schools. She later became an X-ray tech working at St. Catherine's Hospital and later McCook Clinic until she retired.
On June 9, 1953, she was united in marriage to Robert Fred Dame. To this union three sons were born. She was a busy mother and enjoyed cooking, keeping her home clean, and spending time in her flower garden.
Verna was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Altar Society.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Robert Dame on Oct. 13, 2007; grandson, Jeremy Dame; and sister, Virginia Cox.
Survivors include her three sons, David Dame and wife, Cindy, Doug Dame and wife, Brenda, and Roger Dame and wife, Linda, all of McCook; three brothers, Leo Sis and wife, Margaret of Omaha, Nebraska, Chuck Sis and wife, Pat of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Michael Sis and wife, Diane of Atwood, Kansas; two sisters, Freda and husband, Don Menze of Hutchinson, Kansas, and Elaine and husband, John Murphy of Madison, Wisconsin; brother-in-law, Jerry Cox of Imperial, Nebraska; eight grandchildren, Chelsey and husband, Cody Feeken, Derek Dame, Cody Dame and wife, Amanda, Lindsey Dame, Branigan Dame, Brady Dame, Bryce Dame and Brendon Dame; and four great-grandchildren, Brett Fraker, Natalie Dame, Cy Feeken and Aspen Dame.
Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, 10 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour as celebrant. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.
Rosary will be Tuesday, 7 p.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Visitation will be today until 5 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
