City of McCook Fire Chief Marc Harpham, above left, and Red Willow Western Rural Fire Department Fire Chief Bill Elliott stand outside the rural fire station's bay door, contemplating the cause and extent of the fire that destroyed a rural fire truck and filled the station with heavy, black smoke about 5:30 a.m., today. The rural firefighters, along with other area firefighters, had fought a fire at the Frenchman Valley Farmers Coop corn storage and shop facility 31⁄2 miles west of McCook from about 7:20 p.m., Thursday, and throughout most of the night. Elliott, left, comforted his daughter and fellow firefighter Billie Cole when a state fire marshal blamed the fire on an electrical problem in the truck and estimated the loss of the truck and damage to the station and other contents at $150,000.
