OBERLIN, Kansas -- Eldon W. Huntley, 76, died Monday (Aug. 16, 2010), at his home in Oberlin.
He was born Nov. 29, 1933, at a farm in Finley Township at Decatur County, Kansas, to Willis Chester and Della Fern (Young) Huntley. He was raised in Traer, Kansas, and attended Traer School and Decatur Community High School, graduating in 1951.
On Dec. 20, 1953, he married Opal Cross in McCook, Nebraska. They lived in McCook and Oberlin.
He was a farmer. After retiring from farming, he drove the school bus for Decatur County schools.
He was a member of the Oberlin Community Fellowship, Lions Club, and Decatur County EMS.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Suzanne in 1983.
Survivors include his wife, Opal of Oberlin; four sons, Alan and wife, Connie Huntley of Minden, Nebraska, Gaylen and wife, Vicky Huntley of Oberlin, Mark and wife Becky Salts Huntley of Cozad, Nebraska and Daniel and Doreen Huntley of Ark City, Kansas; a daughter, Kristi and husband, James Bond of Kearney, Nebraska; a sister, Elizabeth and husband, Edward Snipes of Freeport, Illinois; 19 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will Friday, 2 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with the Rev. Gene Gee officiating. Interment will follow at the Traer Cemetery in Traer.
Visitation is Thursday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., and Friday, 8 a.m., until the time of the service.
