NORTH PLATTE, Nebraska -- Dorothy M. Shirley, 90, of North Platte, Nebraska, died Thursday (Aug. 12, 2010), at the Sutherland Care Center in Sutherland, Nebraska.
She was born March 8, 1920, at Ewing, Nebraska, to Ernest William and Sadie Irene Gill Bollwitt. She grew up in Ewing and moved to North Platte when she was 12 years old.
She cleaned houses, did laundry, baked and sold pies and worked at the Pawnee Hotel in the laundry department. She also helped at the North Platte Canteen and later worked in the laundry at Linden Manor and retired from there.
On Sept.12, 1984, she married Herbert Leslie Shirley at the Berean Fundamental Church in North Platte where they made their home.
She was a member of the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; her parents; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and John Barnes; a son, Frank Bollwitt; her sisters, Leitha May Scott Vanetta, Maggie Bollwitt and Sadie Bollwitt; two infant brothers and her brothers, Ernest and John Bollwitt.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Lemmert of McCook, Nebraska; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and five great great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Church of Christ (3311 South Oak Street) with Ned Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the Maywood Cemetery in Maywood.
Visitation is 8:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. Tuesday at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore and before service time at the church on Wednesday.
