HASTINGS, Nebraska -- Dorothy L. (Anderson) Salmen, 85, passed away Sunday (Aug. 8, 2010) at Perkins Pavilion, Good Samaritan Society - Hastings Village in Hastings.

Dorothy was born Nov. 25, 1924 to Leslie and Mattie (Rademacher) Gitt in Phelps County, Nebraska. She attended District 8 elementary school and graduated from the Wilcox High School in Wilcox, Nebraska.

She married Wesley Anderson in Holdrege, Nebraska, he preceded her in death. On May 29, 1993, she married Melvin Salmen.

She worked at Eads Jewelry in Holdrege.

Dorothy was a member of the St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings, the St. Cecelia's Altar Society and a member of the Saints Quilting Club. She was a member of the Elks, Does, the Extension Club, and a past member of the Eastern Star, all of Holdrege.

She had been a volunteer for Meals on Wheels since its inception and she was active and did volunteer work at the Good Samaritan Society - Hastings Village.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Wesley on Oct. 20, 1987, and Melvin on Feb. 1, 2006; step-daughter, Kathy Schultz; three brothers; and three sisters.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Baker and husband, Tom of Trenton, Nebraska and Betty Jo Anderson of Hastings; two sons, Eugene Anderson and wife, Theresa of Grand Island, Nebraska and Stewart Anderson of Florida; seven step-children; and numerous grandchildren, a great grandchild, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial is Friday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings with Father Joseph Walsh officiating. Burial will be at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.

Rosary is Friday, 10 a.m., at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church. Book signing is Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home in Hastings.

Memorials may be given to the St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings.
