McCOOK, Nebraska -- Verda Irene Axelson, 91, died Aug. 2, 2010, at Holly Heights Nursing Care Center in Denver, Colorado.

She was born April 19, 1919, in Norton County, Kansas, the daughter of the late John Feyeton and Elma Rose (Culver) Campbell. She grew up in Norton County where she graduated from rural school and attended high school at Mankato and Almena. Her family came to McCook in 1936.

On June 4, 1939, Verda married Tore Axelson in Oberlin, Kansas. The couple spent their married life in McCook, where she owned and operated the Home Beauty Shop for 14 years.

She was a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church in McCook, the U.T.U., 50 year member of the Easter Lily Lodge No. 305, and the Burlington Veterans Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tore on July 18, 1991; eight brothers, John, Roy, Guy, Earl, William, Everett, Cecil, and Walter Campbell; three sisters, Fern Rice, Bertha Modrell, and Golda Altman.

Verda is survived by daughter, Pam Lofthouse and her husband, Russell of Denver, Colorado; grandson, James Lofthouse Hauschild of Concord, New Hampshire; two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Lauren.

Graveside services are Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook with the Rev. Dr. Mary Hendricks officiating. Inurnment is in Memorial Park.
